What is Kambo?

Kambo is the gelatinous secretion produced by the skin glands of the Phyllomedusa bicolor (the giant monkey tree frog), a bright green tree frog native to the Amazon.

Kambo is administered by opening up the top layer of skin with a piece of tamishi vine, and applying the paste from the frog on this skin. Once administered, the body is almost immediately triggered to feel a variety of beneficial chemical reactions in the human body.

Kambo has the ability, unlike many other natural and pharmaceutical substances, to cross both the blood-brain barrier and the outer lining of cells in our body, making it anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. The bioactive peptides in Kambo also perform hormone-like functions inside of the brain, which allows it to assist in resetting, regenerating and restoring balance for various systems throughout the body such as the immune and endocrine system.

Human cells open themselves to the beneficial properties of Kambo, unlike many substances that are filtered and eliminated by the body’s highly intelligent defense system.

Why Kambo?

Kambo is an incredibly powerful purgative, empowering us to clear away physical, emotional, and spiritual blockages. The secretion of the giant monkey tree frog, scientifically named the Phyllomedusa bicolor, contains protein chains called peptides. These peptides mimic our own body’s hormones and are able to permeate the blood-brain barrier.

Kambo has antibiotic properties and strengthens the immune system, while physically destroying pathogenic microorganisms. Kambo is a very powerful ally in response to COVID-19, as well as other illnesses.

Kambo peptides, and their effects, are reported to cover a wide range of potential medical uses:

  • Treatment of Alzheimer’s

  • Parkinson’s

  • Migraines

  • Blood Circulation Problems

  • Vascular Insufficiency

  • Organ Diseases

  • Skin and Eye Issues

  • Cancer

  • Fertility Problem in Women

  • AIDS

  • Candida

  • Hepatitis

  • Herpes

  • and more..

It is traditionally known to be anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antimicrobial, antiviral, and can even help to heal certain types of cancer. Kambo is also a powerful tool against forms of dis-ease that diminish the essence of one’s being and quality of life. Such as depression, PTSD, addiction, chronic fatigue syndrome and so much more.

El Espíritu del Sapo

In the shamanic worldview, we gain assistance from plant and animal spirit allies. In the case of Kambo, we are allying with the Spirit of a frog that has a very strong immunity to predators. Some believe the Spirit of Phyllomedusa bicolor lends us a similar power of being nearly impervious to predatory energy – physically, mentally, and energetically.

As the DNA signature of the frog is introduced into our body, its Spirit gifts us the power to cast off parasitic energies that prey on the body, mind, and spirit. Once free of these energies, it is common to see natural health returned. Synchronicities and good luck are also a common effect of Kambo (many people report having synchronistic visitations by frogs in the days just before or after receiving Kambo).

“Kambo circulates in the heart. When we take Kambo, it makes the heart move accurately so that things flow, bringing good things to the person. It’s as if there was a cloud on the person, preventing the good things to come; then, when they take the Kambo, it becomes a green light which opens the way, making things easier.” – Kaxinawá Kambô shaman

Legend has it that there came a time when a tribe of the Upper Amazon became stricken by an unknown disease that was causing many deaths in their village. One night, the elders gathered around the fire to come up with a plan to help their people.

It was decided that Shaman Kampú, one of the tribe’s older shamans, would venture deep into the forest on a vision quest, drink a potent brew of a ayahuasca at sunset, and wait to receive guidance.

The Legend of Kambô

That night, in answer to his prayers, the great spirit of the Forest appeared in his vision. It called him to the trunk of an enormous tree, and asked him to sit on it. Old shaman Kampú followed the instructions and in some time, a bright green frog climbed down onto his shoulder. The Spirit the proceeded to show Kampú how to work with the frog.

Kampú returned to his tribe to make use of what he was shown. Not only did this frog help cure the tribe of the mysterious disease, it served to cure snakebites, malaria, and curses. The “wonder medicine” given by the frog infused them with the spirit of the frog–a power nobody would have guessed would be so powerful.

To this day, the Matsès tribe continues to use the gift of the frog to aid them in maintaining good health, and to increase their clarity, strength and protection for hunting.
